Journey to the West is a Chinese television series that adapts the classical novel of the same name. First broadcast on CCTV in 1986, the series follows the legendary pilgrimage of a monk and his three supernatural companions as they travel west to retrieve sacred Buddhist scriptures. Blending action, comedy, and fantasy, the show became an instant classic in China and remains widely regarded as the most authentic and faithful adaptation of the source material. A second season released in 1999 covers previously unadapted portions of the original story, extending this epic tale of adventure, redemption, and spiritual transformation.
