Wide Wide World(1955)
Wide Wide World is a documentary series that pioneered live international television. Hosted by Dave Garroway and conceived by NBC head Pat Weaver, the show debuted on June 27, 1955, with a 90-minute premiere featuring entertainment from the US, Canada, and Mexico—the first live international North American broadcast in television history. The program returned as a regular Sunday afternoon series from October 1955 to June 1958, airing at 4pm Eastern and sponsored by General Motors. Executive producer Barry Wood guided the show as it became the highest-rated daytime program on television by March 1956. Wide Wide World captured a transformative moment in broadcasting, bringing distant locations and cultures into American living rooms in real time.
