MacGruder and Loud is an American crime drama that aired on ABC in 1985. The series stars John Getz and Kathryn Harrold as married Los Angeles police officers Malcolm MacGruder and Jenny Loud, who must hide their relationship from their commanding officer, Sgt. Hanson. The pair navigate the tension between their professional duties and personal connection, sneaking moments together in secret—including through a hidden door behind a grandfather clock in Jenny's apartment. Despite a high-profile debut right after the Super Bowl with heavy promotion during the game, the series failed to maintain its initial audience. It was cancelled after just three months, finishing 40th out of 104 programs that season. The show became one of Aaron Spelling Productions' rare failures, though its Super Bowl advertising blitz became memorable enough to inspire a joke from Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show.
