Muttertag is a German crime series following inspectors Pia Sander and Oliver von Bodenstein as they investigate the death of elderly Theodor Reifenrath in the Taunus region. When they discover human remains buried on his property—three women's bodies—the case deepens. Reifenrath and his missing wife Rita ran the lakeside house as an informal children's home, raising numerous foster children over decades, though their care was far from nurturing. Rita disappeared years ago under suspicious circumstances. As the investigators turn their attention to the now-adult foster children, a chilling pattern emerges: the murders appear to occur on Mother's Day. With the holiday approaching, the race intensifies to identify the killer before the next victim falls.
