End of Innocence(1991)

End of Innocence is a two-part television film that chronicles Germany's nuclear weapons program during World War II. The story opens at Farm Hall in England, where ten interned German scientists learn of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in August 1945. Through flashbacks, the film traces the German uranium project from Otto Hahn's discovery of nuclear fission through Kurt Diebner's military research and Werner Heisenberg's experiments at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics, culminating in the final reactor work at Haigerloch in spring 1945. The film examines how these scientists pursued atomic technology amid the chaos of war, and their reactions to America's successful deployment of the bomb they never completed.
