Nights in Tefía(2023)

Nights in Tefía is a documentary series that examines one of Franco's Spain's darkest secrets. Between 1954 and 1966, the Colonia Agrícola Penitenciaria de Tefía operated as a concentration camp in a remote desert region of Fuerteventura, where the regime imprisoned thousands under the Law of Vagos y Maleantes. From 1954 onwards, this law was weaponized against homosexuals alongside vagrants and petty criminals. Decades later, in 2004, survivor Airam Betancor recounts his seventeen months of forced labor within the colony's brutal confines. The series documents this forgotten chapter of Spanish history through firsthand testimony, revealing how the Francoist state systematized persecution and dehumanization in the name of social order.
