Passion for Punchlines(2023)

Passion for Punchlines is a documentary series following two Japanese comedians, Masayasu Wakabayashi and Ryota Yamasato, as they form an unexpected partnership during the pandemic. On May 31, 2021, with COVID-19 shutting down live venues, the performers from separate comedy duos—The Nankai Candies and Audrey—created Tarinai Futari to workshop fresh material about their personal insecurities. Performing to an empty theater for a livestream audience, they prepare for what may be their final show together. The series captures the raw energy of stand-up comedy during lockdown, exploring how two established comedians navigate vulnerability, collaboration, and the uncertain future of live performance in an era of isolation.
