Al-Mashrabiya(1978)

Al-Mashrabiya is an Egyptian drama that follows a famous archaeologist who arrives in a working-class Cairo neighborhood with news of hidden archaeological treasures beneath the streets. Word spreads quickly, and residents begin an obsessive hunt for riches, convinced that fortune lies within reach. As greed takes hold, the community's dynamics shift dramatically. Friendships fracture, morality erodes, and long-buried tensions surface. What starts as collective hope transforms into a cautionary tale about how the promise of wealth can corrupt a tight-knit community and expose the darker sides of human nature.
