Mission: Impossible is an American spy series created by Bruce Geller that follows the covert operations of the Impossible Missions Force, a secret government team. Steven Hill leads the outfit as Dan Briggs in season one, before Peter Graves takes over as Jim Phelps for the remainder of the run. The show's signature moment comes when Briggs or Phelps receives tape-recorded instructions that self-destruct moments later, accompanied by Lalo Schifrin's iconic theme. Originally airing on CBS from 1966 to 1973, the series returned for two seasons on ABC in 1988–1990, with Graves reprising his role. The show's success spawned a blockbuster film franchise starring Tom Cruise that began in 1996 and continues today.
