Ancient Egypt: Life and Death in the Valley of the Kings is a documentary series that shifts focus from pharaohs to the ordinary people who built one of history's greatest civilizations. Egyptologist Dr Joann Fletcher explores the homes, workplaces, and temples of ancient Egyptians, uncovering how they lived and died. The series centers on Kha and Meryt, an architect and his wife who lived near the Valley of the Kings thousands of years ago. Their remarkably preserved tomb contains an extraordinary collection of artifacts—from cosmetics and death masks to bread, figurines, and the tools Kha used in royal construction. Through these objects, Fletcher reconstructs the daily lives and beliefs of people whose stories would otherwise remain hidden. Originally broadcast on BBC2, the series reveals the ingenuity, craft, and humanity of ancient Egypt's working people.
