Green Acres is an American sitcom following Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor as a wealthy Manhattan couple who abandon city life to run a rural farm. The fish-out-of-water comedy aired on CBS from 1965 to 1971, produced by Filmways as a sister show to Petticoat Junction. Despite solid ratings throughout its six-year run, Green Acres fell victim to CBS's "rural purge," a programming shift that cancelled several country-themed shows. The series has since become a syndication staple, available on DVD and VHS. In 1997, the two-part episode "A Star Named Arnold is Born" ranked #59 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time, cementing the show's place in television history.
