Frederick Forsyth's Icon(2005)

Frederick Forsyth's Icon is a political thriller set during Russia's 1999 presidential election. Two rivals compete for power: Igor Komarov, a former KGB colonel with nationalist ambitions, and Nikolai Nikolayev, a retired general. When a car bomb destroys one of Komarov's pharmaceutical facilities and a dangerous virus goes missing, FSB agents Sonia Astrova and Andrei Kasanov launch an investigation. Their pursuit of the truth faces constant obstruction from Anatoly Grishin, the FSB's own director, forcing them to navigate a maze of corruption and conspiracy at the highest levels of Russian government. As the election looms, the agents must uncover who orchestrated the attack and what sinister plans lie behind the stolen virus.
