The Scarlet Pimpernel(1999)

The Scarlet Pimpernel is a television drama set during the French Revolution in 1793, adapted from Baroness Emmuska Orczy's classic novels. Richard E. Grant stars as Sir Percy Blakeney, a seemingly frivolous English aristocrat who leads a secret life as the Scarlet Pimpernel, a master of disguise rescuing French nobles from the guillotine. Elizabeth McGovern plays his wife Marguerite, caught between her love for Percy and her past allegiances, while Martin Shaw portrays the ruthless revolutionary Paul Chauvelin, determined to unmask the Pimpernel. Ronan Vibert rounds out the cast as the menacing Robespierre. Filmed in the Czech Republic with a score by composer Michal Pavlíček, the series balances swashbuckling adventure with political intrigue and personal drama as Percy navigates espionage, romance, and revolution.
