Autonomies(2018)

Autonomies is an Israeli series set in an alternate present where Jerusalem is divided into two autonomous zones: a secular state and an ultra-Orthodox enclave. Broide, a cunning Haredi smuggler, traffics in contraband between the two worlds, profiting from the divide. When he's offered a lucrative but dangerous job—kidnapping a young girl caught in a custody dispute between a Haredi and secular family—Broide finds himself entangled in a conflict far larger than simple criminal enterprise. The series explores the tensions between religious and secular communities through the eyes of a man straddling both worlds, where a single act threatens to unravel the fragile coexistence between the two societies.
