Inochi(1986)

Inochi is a Japanese drama set in August 1945, three days after the Pacific War ends. A crowded freight train carries survivors from devastated Tokyo northward to Aomori, among them sisters Miki and Sachi—daughters of a wealthy landlord in the rural Tsugaru region. The sisters had left their village years earlier to study in the capital. Witnessing the desperate lack of medical care in her hometown, Miki resolves to become a rural doctor, determined to serve the isolated communities that have been abandoned by the postwar system. The series follows her journey as she pursues this calling against the backdrop of Japan's reconstruction and the social upheaval of the immediate postwar years.
