The Julie Andrews Hour is a television variety series that premiered on ABC in September 1972, starring Julie Andrews in a show built entirely around her talents. Produced by ATV and distributed by ITC Entertainment, the program was designed to showcase Andrews' range as a performer, learning from the missteps of earlier variety shows that had failed to capitalize on their stars. Despite strong critical reviews at launch, the series struggled with its time slot, initially airing Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. against the popular detective drama Cannon. ABC attempted several schedule changes—moving it to 8:30 p.m., then alternating weekly, and finally to Saturday nights at 9 p.m.—but ratings remained weak against competition from The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Bob Newhart Show. The Julie Andrews Hour was cancelled after 24 episodes in April 1973, ending its brief run on American television.
