Idool(2003)

Idool is the Belgian adaptation of the global Idol franchise, launched by VTM in late 2002. The competition narrows thousands of hopefuls down to 100 contestants, then to 30–50 through rigorous auditions and judge evaluations. From the semi-finals onward, viewers take control of the voting while judges offer commentary. Like its international counterparts, Idool rewards more than pure vocal talent—contestants succeed or fail based on charisma, stage presence, appearance, and entertainment value. The series became a cultural phenomenon in Belgium, blending musical competition with the unpredictable drama of public voting.
