Tagesthemen is a German news magazine series and one of ARD's flagship broadcasts, second only to the 20:00 Tagesschau. Hosted by journalists Caren Miosga and Tom Buhrow, the program airs weeknights at 22:15, with adjusted times on weekends. Since replacing the late Tagesschau edition in January 1978, Tagesthemen has distinguished itself through deeper reporting and analysis. While Tagesschau offers headline coverage, Tagesthemen typically features four to five in-depth segments that provide context, background and investigation into the day's major stories and themes. Each broadcast runs approximately thirty minutes on weekdays, with shorter editions on weekends.
