He Was Once(1989)

He Was Once is a bizarre live-action parody of the animated religious children's show Davey and Goliath, shot in stop-motion style with distorted voices, oversized prosthetic features, and surreal sets that dwarf even Pee-Wee's Playhouse in their strangeness. The film follows young Davey, who is brutally whipped by his father for claiming he saw a bear—despite the bear being real. His sister watches gleefully while Goliath, rendered as a grotesque leopard-skin footrest with a twisted tail, suffers the same punishment. The narrative spirals into Oedipal dream sequences and Davey's dark fantasies of revenge, creating a darkly hilarious suburban nightmare that lingers long after viewing.
