The First Day of Freedom(1964)
The First Day of Freedom is a war drama set in the final days of World War II. Polish soldiers, recently liberated, find themselves stranded in a small German town where they commandeer a house as temporary shelter. When a concentration camp worker assaults the local doctor's daughter, the Poles offer her and her father refuge—an act of mercy that complicates their precarious situation. As they await repatriation, German forces attack the town, forcing the exhausted soldiers back into combat. Trapped once again under enemy fire, the group grapples with trauma, survival, and the moral weight of their choices. The film explores how war erodes humanity and tests the bonds between people caught in its final, brutal moments.
