The Road Home(1946)

The Road Home is a Latvian wartime drama following Janis, a peasant boy arrested by Nazi occupiers in his homeland. After his first escape and recapture, Janis faces a devastating choice: his own brother, now a collaborationist policeman, detains him again. When Janis escapes a second time, the Germans punish his family—his wife Ilga and daughter are deported to a concentration camp. Desperate to save them, Janis will stop at nothing. The film explores the impossible moral terrain of occupation, where family bonds fracture under totalitarian pressure and survival demands unthinkable sacrifices.
