Die Mauer – Berlin '61 is a historical drama set during the construction of the Berlin Wall in August 1961. When East Berlin worker Hans Kuhlke and his wife are trapped on the western side after the borders suddenly close, their fourteen-year-old son Paul is left behind in the East. Caught between his loyalty to the Communist Party and his love for his parents, Paul begins to question the system that has defined his life. With help from his piano teacher, he hatches a desperate plan to escape to the West. As the Wall rises brick by brick, Paul must navigate the increasingly dangerous divide separating East from West Berlin, racing against time before escape becomes impossible.
