Bitter Coffee(1985)

Bitter Coffee follows Togar, a journalism student from North Sumatra whose parents expect him to graduate. When he fails his studies, Togar takes work as a labourer in a cement factory, far from his academic ambitions. With encouragement from his friend Buyung, Togar begins writing for a newspaper while still employed at the factory. The film traces his struggle between family expectations and personal passion as he eventually leaves the factory to pursue journalism. Set against the industrial backdrop of Indonesia, Bitter Coffee explores themes of resilience, second chances, and finding one's true calling despite setbacks.
