Intensive Care(1982)

Intensive Care is a British drama about Denis Midgley, a schoolteacher who abandons his unhappy life—a troubled marriage, a senile mother-in-law, and a rebellious teenage son—when his father suffers a medical crisis. Estranged from his father for years, Denis camps out at the hospital, ostensibly to be present if his father wakes. But as weeks pass and his father clings to life, Denis finds himself drawn to Valery, a young nurse on staff. What begins as a vigil becomes an escape, as Denis lingers in the hospital corridors, caught between duty to family and an unexpected connection. The film explores how proximity to mortality can shift our priorities, and how loneliness can blur the line between care and self-interest.
