Hood(2015)

When RJ (Matt Singletary) returns home to Chicago after an 8 year tour in the army, he quickly finds that the streets he once knew are now eerily similar to the war torn villages and deserts of the Middle East.

Hood is a modern action film that reimagines the Robin Hood legend against the backdrop of Chicago's gang violence. When army veteran RJ returns home after eight years of service, he discovers his neighborhood has become a war zone as brutal as any he faced overseas. Guided by his Uncle Richard, RJ learns the harsh rules of survival: avoid the streets at night, trust no one, and understand that gangs, drugs, and money now control everything. Determined to break the cycle, RJ teams up with Father Benjamin Tuck, his childhood love Marian who runs a community center, and fellow soldiers to dismantle the drug trade and end the gangland warfare destroying their city. The film explores both the heroic action and the deeper systemic problems plaguing urban neighborhoods, asking whether one person can truly make a difference against entrenched violence.
