Hajji Washington is a period comedy following Hajji Hossein-Gholi Noori, Iran's first ambassador to the United States, as he navigates the challenges of establishing a new embassy in Washington D.C. Struggling to attract prominent American statesmen to official functions and frustrated by his government's inability to adequately support the diplomatic mission, Haji takes drastic action by dismissing his entire staff. His fortunes shift unexpectedly when President Grover Cleveland makes a surprise visit to the embassy one evening. The film captures the cultural clash and diplomatic mishaps that ensue as Haji attempts to fulfill his ambassadorial duties while managing the peculiar obstacles of his posting.
