The Sun Assassinated is a biographical drama set in 1970s Algeria. Poet and radio host Jean Sénac remained in the country after independence, using his platform to champion young artists and cultural freedom. When students Hamid and Belkacem face censorship for performing their play in French at the national theater festival, Sénac's quiet support transforms into a deep friendship. As the regime's police intensify their surveillance, Sénac becomes an increasingly vocal advocate for Algerian youth, defying political pressure through his poetry and broadcasts. In August 1973, he is found murdered in the cellar where he lived. The investigation turns suspicion toward Hamid, forcing the young man to confront both grief and accusation. The film traces Sénac's principled stand for artistic expression and the tragic cost of dissent under authoritarian rule.
