Věra Lukášová(1939)

Věra Lukášová is a Czech film following an eleven-year-old girl navigating grief and displacement after her parents' death. Living with her dismissive grandmother, Věra finds little understanding or warmth. Her grandmother mourns her lost son while harboring contempt for Věra's mother, a saleswoman she deemed beneath the family. Isolated and struggling to connect, Věra retreats into elaborate fantasy worlds where her toys transform into Spanish nobility and she can escape her grandmother's bitterness. The film explores how a child processes loss, class prejudice, and the gap between generations through her imaginative resistance to a hostile household.
