Russian Georgians. Part 2(2022)
Russian Georgians. Part 2 is a documentary that continues Leonid Parfyonov's examination of Georgian influence on Russian culture and politics. The film opens with Stalin's role in shaping Soviet patriotism during World War II, then moves through the post-war Stalinist era and the brief partnership of Beria and Malenkov. It traces the cultural thaw that followed, profiling poet-musician Bulat Okudzhava and filmmakers Mikhail Kalatozov and Marlena Khutsiev, whose work defined a generation. The documentary concludes by surveying post-Soviet figures who achieved prominence across music, dance, and literature—including conductor Zurab Tsereteli, ballet dancer Irek Tsiskaridze, and writer Boris Akunin. Through these interconnected stories, the film reveals how Georgian artists and leaders left an indelible mark on twentieth-century Russian society.
