Caina(2020)
Adapted, at first into a theatre play, and now into a film from Davide Morgante’s book by the same name,
Caina is a dark drama about a xenophobic former assassin who works a grim summer job collecting corpses of drowned migrants off a European beach for cash. Competing with other scavengers in this brutal trade, she crosses paths with Nahiri, a Tunisian man who operates with a gang harvesting bodies for the black market—sometimes ensuring the weakest don't survive. The film explores a ruthless underworld where profit drives unspeakable choices, and unlikely connections form between sworn enemies. It's a bleak examination of desperation, prejudice, and the moral collapse that occurs when survival becomes a commodity.
