Goodyear Television Playhouse is an American anthology series that aired live on NBC from 1951 to 1957 during television's Golden Age. Sponsored by Goodyear and alternating weekly with Philco Television Playhouse, the series became a launching pad for major American writers. Producer Fred Coe championed emerging talents including Paddy Chayefsky, Horton Foote, Gore Vidal, and Tad Mosel, who crafted intimate dramas that defined the era. The series produced several classics: Chayefsky's Marty, starring Rod Steiger, became a cultural phenomenon; his The Bachelor Party and Vidal's Visit to a Small Planet also emerged from the playhouse. In 1955, the title shortened to The Goodyear Playhouse and alternated with The Alcoa Hour. The show evolved into a taped half-hour format called Goodyear Theater from 1957 to 1960, airing Monday nights at 9:30pm.
