Hootenanny(1963)

Hootenanny is an American musical variety series that aired on ABC from April 1963 to September 1964, hosted by Jack Linkletter. The program showcased pop-oriented folk music acts including The Journeymen, The Limeliters, the Chad Mitchell Trio, The New Christy Minstrels, The Brothers Four, Ian & Sylvia, Judy Collins, Johnny Cash, Flatt & Scruggs, and the Smothers Brothers. Despite its popularity and cultural influence, Hootenanny is remembered chiefly for a significant controversy: producers blacklisted certain folk musicians, sparking a boycott by other performers and raising questions about artistic freedom that resonated throughout the folk music community of the era.
