Ashes to Ashes is a Chinese historical drama set in pre-liberation Sichuan's Aba region. The story centers on Old Chieftain Maiqi, a ruthless local warlord backed by the Kuomintang who consolidates power through opium production, arms trafficking, and sheer intimidation. Neighboring chieftains fear his reach. Maiqi has two sons: the charismatic eldest, groomed as his heir, and the second son, intellectually disabled and long written off as worthless. As political winds shift and the old order crumbles, the family's fortunes hang in the balance.
