Mike Bassett: Manager is a comedy series following the hapless football manager as he attempts one last redemption. After his disastrous spell with England and subsequent failures at Newcastle, Norwich, and Colchester, Mike is offered a final chance: managing struggling Wirral County F.C., the club where his father once played. Facing near-certain relegation to the Football Conference, Mike must navigate a senile chairman, a chief executive secretly hoping for the club's downfall so he can sell the ground, and his wife Karine's fury at abandoning their retirement plans in Spain for a backwater posting in Ellesmere Port. The series charts Mike's quixotic battle to save the club from oblivion while his personal life crumbles around him.
