The Agency is a CBS drama that pulls back the curtain on CIA operations and the moral complexities of intelligence work. Created by Michael Frost Beckner and featuring unprecedented access to CIA headquarters, the series aired for two seasons from 2001 to 2003. The show's pilot, written before 9/11, imagined a CIA confronting a "War on Terror" in the aftermath of an Al Qaeda attack—a premise that became grimly prescient. The actual September 11 attacks forced CBS to delay the premiere, and the network ultimately reshaped the series to reflect America's shifting relationship with global conflict.
