Magic City(2017)

Magic City is a Chinese series set on the Shanghai Bund during the 1930s, following Ye Fei, a young magician seeking revenge for his father's death. After Ye Jin, head of the prestigious Jin Rong troupe, dies from despair following a controversial loss to a German magician, his son trains under a renowned master to hone his craft. Ye Fei's journey leads him to Shanghai, where he falls for Xiao Yao, daughter of a powerful ganglord. Their budding romance and his quest for vengeance are interrupted when war engulfs the nation, forcing them both to abandon personal struggles and fight for their country's survival. The series weaves together magic, family honor, romance, and wartime patriotism against the backdrop of one of China's most iconic cities.
