The X Factor: Battle of the Stars(2006)

The X Factor: Battle of the Stars was a celebrity special of the UK talent competition that aired on ITV for eight consecutive nights starting 29 May 2006. Nine famous acts performed live before judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, competing for their chosen charities. The show replaced a planned Celebrity Pop Idol special after ITV selected The X Factor instead. Viewers voted in real time as the celebrities tackled the competition's signature format. However, the experiment proved short-lived. By August 2006, Cowell publicly dismissed the series as "pointless," declaring the format would never return. Despite its brief run, Battle of the Stars remains a curious footnote in The X Factor's history, marking the rare occasion when the franchise pivoted toward established names rather than discovering new talent.
