German Crime Story: Gefesselt(2023)

German Crime Story: Gefesselt is a crime series set in 1990s Hamburg, where commissioner Nela Langenbeck battles both violent crime and the police force's entrenched sexism. Women officers are sidelined as secretaries while male colleagues dismiss their work. Langenbeck pursues the acid barrel murderer Raik Doormann, a serial killer who abducts, tortures and kills women in his underground bunker, dissolving their remains in acid to fund his escape to Costa Rica. When a victim escapes and other detectives ignore her account, Langenbeck becomes obsessed with catching him. Her investigation uncovers a brutal conspiracy that grips the nation, forcing her to navigate institutional prejudice while hunting one of Germany's most dangerous killers.
