Lights Out(1949)

Lights Out is a pioneering horror anthology series that began as a radio program in 1934 before transitioning to television. The show aired across multiple networks for over a decade, establishing itself as an early leader in supernatural storytelling—predating similar series like Suspense and Inner Sanctum. NBC brought Lights Out to television in 1946 with a series of live specials produced by Fred Coe. The premiere episode, "First Person Singular," follows an unnamed murderer's perspective as he kills his wife and faces execution, earning critical acclaim from Variety as "undoubtedly one of the best dramatic shows yet seen on a television screen." Despite this strong reception, the series didn't become a regular NBC fixture until 1949, eventually establishing itself as a landmark in early television horror.
