Reverend(1989)

Reverend is a two-part Slovak drama chronicling the life of Jozef Murgaš, an inventor, painter, and national figure who shaped both his homeland and the Slovak diaspora. Part one follows Murgaš's formative years, from his childhood in Tajov through his theological studies at Esztergom Seminary. Torn between religious duty and artistic passion, he pursues painting in Budapest and Munich before authorities force him to abandon his education. Part two shifts to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where Murgaš reinvents himself as a priest serving Slovak immigrants. He builds a church with his community and establishes a school for Slovak children, transforming his thwarted artistic ambitions into spiritual and cultural leadership. The series explores how personal sacrifice and determination allowed Murgaš to leave an indelible mark across continents.
