Patalliro Saiyuki! is an anime series following Genjō Sanzō, a Buddhist monk tasked by the Emperor with retrieving sacred scriptures. When an Earth Deity reveals that Buddha has sent him a disciple, Sanzō meets Son Goku, a mischievous Monkey Deity freed from five hundred years of imprisonment in a mountain after causing chaos in Heaven. Joined by Cho Hakkai, a carefree womanizer with a taste for alcohol; Sha Gojyō, a heavenly general; and Ryūba, a dragon prince serving as their horse, the unlikely group embarks on a journey filled with humor and unexpected trials. This comedic take on the classic journey narrative blends supernatural elements with character-driven adventure as the mismatched companions navigate obstacles and grow closer through their shared quest.
