Oedo Fire Slayer -The Legend of Phoenix- is an anime series set in Edo-period Japan, following Gengo Matsunaga, a legendary samurai fire-slayer known as Phoenix. After years away from the profession, Gengo accepts a mission from the Shinjo Domain to rebuild a defunct firefighting brigade. With encouragement from his wife Miyuki, he assembles a ragtag team of misfits called the Ragged Fire-Slayers. Together they pursue a dangerous arsonist named Kitsunebi, whose mysterious fires threaten the city. The series blends historical setting with action as Gengo draws on his formidable skills to protect Edo and uncover the truth behind the attacks.
