Sinister Street(1969)

Sinister Street is a 1969 British television miniseries adapted from Compton Mackenzie's 1913–14 novel. This six-part serial follows Michael Fane and his sister Stella, children born out of wedlock to wealthy parents in an era when such circumstances carried deep social stigma. A psychological coming-of-age drama, the series explores the siblings' lives against the backdrop of early twentieth-century society's rigid moral codes. Dramatised by Ray Lawler and starring Brett Usher, Gillian Hawser, Kate Lansbury, and Jo Kendall, Sinister Street remains the only televised adaptation of Mackenzie's work. Sadly, all episodes were wiped and are believed lost to time.
