Keeping Up Appearances is a British sitcom following Hyacinth Bucket, a snobbish suburban housewife in the West Midlands who insists her surname is pronounced "Bouquet." Desperate to maintain an image of genteel respectability and high-society connections, Hyacinth orchestrates her life with obsessive precision—from her pristine lounge to her carefully curated guest list. Her aspirations crumble constantly, however, thanks to her senile father's indecent public escapades, her unfashionable brother-in-law, her unambitious husband Richard, and her embarrassingly common sisters. Trapped between her delusions of grandeur and the chaotic reality of her family, Hyacinth battles relentlessly to control every detail while her long-suffering friend Elizabeth endures kitchen captivity and neighbours flee at the sound of her voice. The series mines comedy from the gap between Hyacinth's self-image and everyone else's exasperated reality.
