Life on Mars is a British drama series following detective Sam Tyler, who wakes up in 1973 after a car crash, unsure whether he's dead, dreaming, or genuinely trapped in the past. Still working as a detective, Sam must navigate the gritty streets of Manchester while adjusting to the era's brutal policing methods and his bewildering new reality. Partnered with the abrasive Gene Hunt, a hard-drinking cop from another era, Sam struggles to solve cases while piecing together what happened to him. The series blends crime procedural elements with psychological mystery, questioning the nature of reality itself. As Sam investigates murders and tries to find his way home, he grapples with whether this strange world is punishment, purgatory, or something far stranger.
