Sodankylä Forever(2010)

Sodankylä Forever is a documentary series celebrating the Midnight Sun Film Festival, held each June in the Finnish Arctic village where daylight never fades. Founded in 1985 by Aki and Mika Kaurismäki, Anssi Mänttäri, and Peter von Bagh, the festival has drawn legendary filmmakers for decades of intimate two-hour discussions. To mark its silver anniversary, festival director von Bagh compiled these dialogues into a four-part cinematic history spanning anecdotes, insights, and wisdom from nearly eighty directors—among them Coppola, Fuller, Forman, Kieslowski, Kiarostami, Varda, and Gilliam. Their conversations range across war, censorship, movie stars, formative influences, and neorealism, creating a personal exchange across generations. Many voices are now gone, making this archive both a charming and poignant record of cinema's greatest minds in candid reflection.
