Backstrom is a crime drama series following Detective Lieutenant Everett Backstrom, a brash, unfiltered cop who returns to Portland's police force after five years in exile for offensive conduct. Assigned to lead the newly formed Special Crimes Unit, he tackles the city's most sensitive cases while struggling against his own self-destructive impulses. Backstrom must solve crimes and navigate complex investigations, all while attempting—and mostly failing—to reform his abrasive personality. Based on Leif G.W. Persson's acclaimed Swedish crime novels, the series balances dark humor with procedural tension as Backstrom's questionable methods clash with his department's expectations.
