My Chief and My Regiment is a Chinese historical series set during the 1942 Battle of Yunnan-Burma Road in the Second Sino-Japanese War. The story follows the Chinese National Revolutionary Army Expeditionary Force as they fight to protect a vital supply route through Burma after Japan seizes China's ports. When British allied forces withdraw, the Chinese troops face a desperate retreat through dense jungle, hunted by relentless Japanese forces. Of the 100,000 soldiers deployed, only 40,000 survive the ordeal. The narrative centers on Meng Fanliao, a young Beijing student turned soldier, as he and his unit struggle through the harsh terrain and constant ambushes. Through his eyes, the series captures the courage and sacrifice of those caught between survival and duty during one of World War II's most brutal campaigns.
