Mare(2015)

Mare is a Japanese series following a young woman's journey from childhood hardship to purposeful adulthood. When Mare's father's business collapses, her family flees the city and settles in a remote fishing village in Noto, where they rent a home from a couple running a salt pond. Her mother sustains the family through labor at the pond while her father's new venture also crumbles. Eight years later, Mare graduates high school determined to break the cycle of failure. She takes a steady job with the Wajima local government, supporting people relocating to the region. The series explores themes of resilience, family sacrifice, and finding stability in unexpected places, set against the backdrop of rural Japan's coastal landscape.
