Oil Strike North is a BBC drama series from 1975 that follows life aboard Nelson One, a fictional North Sea oil rig operated by Triumph Oil. Created and produced by Gerard Glaister, the series shifts focus from corporate intrigue to intimate character studies, exploring how workers navigate the harsh realities of offshore life and the toll it takes on their families back home. The thirteen-episode run features Nigel Davenport, Glyn Owen, Barbara Shelley, Angela Douglas, and Sean Caffrey in leading roles. Rather than dwelling on boardroom politics, Oil Strike North prioritizes personal drama and human connection amid the industrial landscape. The show's premise was later revisited in the BBC's mid-1990s series Roughnecks. Glaister went on to create Secret Army and Howards' Way, with Davenport and Owen reprising roles in the latter.
